About the Leadership Academy Sessions

The Leadership Academy Workshop series was created for campus administrators to support implementation of balanced literacy and workshops. This series consists of six, 3-hour sessions, offered as AM or PM sessions, allowing campus administrators to select which time period is most convenient to them. Participants will choose to attend as many individual sessions as relevant to their needs, or choose to sign up for all six sessions as a bundle. Each session in the series will have a specific focus related to current literacy best practice and will be approached through a literacy leadership lens. 

You should attend if you are a campus administrators who is...

    1. New to your leadership role

    2. Have teaching experience in an area other than ELAR

    3. Have teaching experience at either a primary elementary level or an upper elementary level, but not both

    4. Want to enhance your deep understanding of current best practice in literacy instruction 

    5. Want to feel confident when conducting classroom walk-throughs during the language arts block

    6. Want to discuss most recent best literacy instructional practices with other leaders

Debbie Whitt Jarzombek

The Leadership Academy sessions will be facilitated by Debbie Jarzombek. Debbie's career in Texas public schools spans thirty years and includes a variety of roles: curriculum director, literacy coordinator, principal supervisor, elementary principal, elementary assistant principal, Reading Recovery teacher, middle school reading teacher, elementary classroom teacher, ESL teacher and college education department instructor. In addition to serving as a Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development board member, Debbie also worked for 12 years as the curriculum director in Frisco Independent School District and as a trainer for the Texas State Master Reading Teacher Program. As a district administrator, she embraced a servant leadership model and continues to enjoy opportunities to coach and support educators.
