Let’s move the conventions of language from being viewed as right and wrong to seeing them as providing meaning and effect in both oral and written language. Let’s engage in brain-based, practical ways to use the reading-writing connection to teach grammar and conventions for meaning making that grows even our youngest writers and readers.

Led by author Caroline Sweet, This workshop is designed for bilingual teachers looking to enhance their Spanish language instruction. We’ll explore how to leverage culturally relevant bilingual children’s literature to teach the conventions of the Spanish language. We’ll discuss how we build our community of young bilingual writers as we invite them to discover how authors use conventions to tell a story. We will use the Patterns of Power process to allow young writers to connect reading and writing and explore Spanish grammar.
