My background over the past 28 years in Education includes: Assistant Professor, Texas Reading Academies Cohort Leader, Assistant Principal, Educational Support Specialist, 1st grade teacher, 4th grade teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, Master Teacher (K-2), ESL teacher, Literacy Specialist, ELAR Instructional Coach (6-8), and Curriculum and Instruction Consultant for Region 10 Education Service Center. I obtained my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Southwestern College, my M.Ed. in Reading from Texas A&M-Commerce, and my B.S. from Abilene Christian University. My dissertation research was on the effects of small group guided reading instruction on first grade students reading below grade level. I am particularly passionate about Early Literacy instruction and believe in meeting students where they are and propelling them forward on the cutting edge of their learning while creating a love of learning. Fostering independence and instilling confidence to create life-long learners is paramount. On a personal note, I have been married to my husband for 26 years and we have a beautiful 21-year-old daughter who will graduate from Abilene Christian University this Spring and plans to attend law school to practice criminal law.
