She has also served as a Response to Intervention Specialist and a Master Reading Teacher. Before going into educational consulting, Markesha was a Literacy Specialist/K-4 ELAR & Social Studies Teaching and Learning Coach. She loves training and empowering teachers to use literacy best practices to increase student achievement.

Markesha received her Master of Education in Reading from Texas A&M Commerce, her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Tyler, and an associate's degree from Trinity Valley Community College.

Markesha is also the founder of Household Literacy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping parents to create literacy-rich homes. Working with teachers by day and parents by night, she hopes all children experience the joy of reading and discover their favorite books.

Markesha is a proud Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts member, serves on the board, and has presented at several annual conferences. She is also a proud graduate of the Leadership ISD 2020 Cohort. Her cohort focused on using policy to disrupt institutional inequities based on race, language, and income.

In her spare time, Markesha enjoys spending time with her husband, James, and being a mommy to their son, Joshua.  She also loves to read and is obsessed with children’s literature.
