She has also served as both a Response to Intervention Specialist and Master Reading Teacher. Before going into educational consulting, Markesha was a Literacy Specialist/K-4 ELAR & Social Studies Teaching and Learning Coach. She loves training and empowering teachers to use literacy best practices to increase student achievement. Teachers respond well and appreciate Markesha's passion, commitment, and hugs.

Markesha received her Master of Education in Reading from Texas A&M Commerce, Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Tyler, and an associates degree from Trinity Valley Community College. Markesha is also the founder of Household Literacy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping parents to create literacy-rich homes. Working with teachers by day and parents by night, she is hoping all children experience the joy of reading and discover their favorite books.

Markesha is a member of the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts, serves on the elementary section committee, and has presented at the annual conference. She is also a proud graduate of the Leadership ISD 2020 Cohort. Her cohort worked to change policies and practices in Fort Worth ISD to eliminate racial disparities.

In her spare time, Markesha enjoys spending time with her husband, James, and their extended family. She loves to read and is obsessed with children’s literature.
