Mona Savage, Literacy Consultant/Coach, works alongside administrators, teachers and instructional coaches to develop campus literacy goals to empower readers and writers. With over 25 years of diverse educational experiences, Mona uses a research based toolkit of strategies to empower teachers. These strategies engage in responsive instruction for all learners. She collaborates with campus leaders, administrators and instructional coaches, to customize professional development for staff. She also facilitates district-wide study groups and is able to offer support for balanced literacy implementation using a gradual release model.
She has developed district literacy institutes, with an emphasis on launching reading and writing workshop within a balanced literacy framework, as well as methods for small group instruction. Her last 11 years, Mona served as a district ELAR Elementary coordinator in McKinney, Texas. She led and developed curriculum and instruction, as well as led professional development for PK-5 grades. Prior to having this role, she served as a classroom teacher for grades K-6, an ESL teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, Instructional Literacy Coach, District Professional Development Facilitator, and District Social Studies Elementary Coordinator. Mona draws on these vast experiences when partnering with school leaders, teachers, parents and students. Mona is passionate about creating community learning spaces that respect and value individual learning differences.
Mona embraces a servant leadership model to build capacity in any learning organization. Mona attends various Reading/Writing Teachers College and literacy conferences to study teaching methods in reading and writing development conversation, with regards to instruction and curriculum.
Mona happily resides in Frisco, Texas with her family of four and their one dog. She loves spending any free time with her family. She and her husband, of 25 years, are passionate Texas A&M Aggies. Although she has deep Texas roots, she enjoys traveling the world to grow her schema and gather different view points from each travel experience. Some of her favorite leisure activities include reading morning devotionals, writing in her gratitude journal, home decorating, watching romantic comedies, spa days, and taking relaxing vacations with breath taking beach views.
