I am an Associate Professor in the College of Education at TCU where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy. I currently serve as co-editor of The Reading Teacher for the International Literacy Association. My training as a Reading Recovery teacher shaped my teaching craft forever. I learned how to be a keen observer of children and how to build on readers' strengths while nudging them forward in their literacy journeys. Throughout my 20+ years in education, I have served as a teacher, literacy coach, trainer of coaches, and university professor. I stay connected to the classroom by learning alongside teachers and students. Teachers are my passion. My research centers around teaching decisions related to literacy instruction, particularly in guided reading. I love partnering with school districts to provide job-embedded professional development and particularly enjoy coaching classroom teachers and literacy interventionists. When I am not working in schools, teaching at the university, or conducting research, I enjoy spending time with my supportive husband and my three talented and beautiful children.
